This documentation was designed to assist you at any
time, provide detailed information about FAST Defrag usage,
solutions to common problems, and answers to frequently asked questions.

Fast Defrag 2 is very portable and it can be used on any 32 bit version
of Windows including Windows 95,98,Me, NT4.0, 2000,XP. There are no different
releases. Use the same package for each version of Windows without any
additional settings. Fast Defrag uses incredibly low system resources so
you won’t feel its presence.
1. System Manager
Contains two windows: Memory and Processor. The Memory Window
displays information about your system's RAM and current swap file (Virtual
Memory).
Memory Window Content:
Used
Hard Memory is the approximate percentage of total physical that is in use.
Total
physical memory indicates the amount of physical memory installed in your system.
Free
physical memory indicates the amount of physical memory available.
Virtual
Memory size indicates the total number of KB / MB that can be stored in the
paging file. Note that this number may not represent the actual physical size
of the paging file on disk.
Free
Virtual Memory Size indicates the number of KB / MB available in the paging file.
Processor Usage indicates the
approximate percentage of your processor usage.
Available Options: Clean. You can do this either by clicking
"Clean" or click right button of the mouse on Fast
Defrag icon in system tray.
What
will happen after I press Clean?
>You will get back the maximum amount of free memory possible in the shortest time (without removing operating system or active programs components from physical memory as all other RAM managers do). If Windows or any other program components are removed you will have to wait until they will be loaded again, so your time is wasted
> The
information will be rearranged and reallocated and the components that are not
currently used will be moved into the Virtual Memory.
Application
Crash Protection: The memory will not contain any unclaimed data so we can prevent
future "Memory could not be read" errors (occurs because an
application does not allocate a large enough buffer for the maximum string
length permitted. however this error can be fixed by FAST Defrag cleanup
engine). Your running applications will be more stable and will use less memory
after the cleanup procedure it’s done.
User
Note:
FAST Defrag is designed for All Windows Versions and it can correct all
types of application/system crashes. If an application crashes each time you
try to execute it (and worked fine before) all you have to do is to press Clean
and it will work again.
Processor Window displays information
about your PC’s main processor like
model, speed, functions and other hardware details.
2. Task Manager displays all the applications that are running
on your system and regarding your windows version you can find out different
information about each process like: resource consumption, memory consumption,
application full path, number of threads etc.
You can save the snapshot of the running applications
into an output file.
Spyware Protection: This module contains
features to prevent unwanted applications to run.
Available Options:
End Task: you can highlight and
kill the specified process.
Refresh: Refresh task list.
Edit Process Memory Window allows you to modify different addresses from
a process’s memory. This feature is very useful for programmers
because they can test the behavior of their products in different simulated
environments. Gamers and testers can find this very useful because they can
modify a game to obtain infinite lives, money, resources etc.
How it works: Use the Find menu to search the memory for a
specified value (8, 16, 32 bit or auto). Fast Defrag will keep
all the addresses but will only display 25 of them in the first list. Use Find
Next to filtrate the initial values to the one (ones) that you are
interested in. Double click on the first list to pull the address and its
information into the second list. Double click a value into the working area
(the second list) to Poke the address, and right click of the mouse to
generate a popup menu that can help. You can Save or Load the
founded addresses to an .adr file. You can
also use the common list view facilities like the cursor arrows to move,

manage the programs that are starting with windows, the programs that are
currently installed on your PC. You will find other links to many useful utilities and system tweaks.
Spyware Protection: Startup Manager: Manage and identify
the applications that are running at each Windows session. This module contains
features to prevent unwanted applications to run.
4. Fast Options allows you to easily
configure FAST Defrag.
Conservative
swap file usage
If enabled (like on Win95) Windows will only use the swap file after filling up
your systems entire RAM. Data goes in RAM that is a whole lot faster than the
hard drive, and afterwards to the hard drive.
If disabled (later versions than Win95) Windows will use both the swap file and
RAM at the same time. Some stuff will go into the swap file and some stuff will
go into RAM. More time will pass until your entire RAM is filled up.
Note that some new applications won’t work with the conservative
swap file. Our advice is to set this option regarding the purpose of the
computer. We recommend this feature especially for games and multimedia.
Start
with windows
If enabled FAST Defrag will run at system start-up and minimize
to tray, to monitor RAM usage and eventually defragment
when needed.
Memory Guardian is a tool that helps
you to maintain your system for long periods of time.
Unlike other similar products the FAST Defrag Memory Guardian
contains a set of instructions that optimize memory depending on numerous
aspects: memory percentage, time since last cleanup, processor usage, typical
role of the computer: Server or Workstation. Workstation setting
is different from Server setting because it will attempt to clean memory more
often.
Engine:
AMF or SMF? AMF if the default engine and it’s the fastest.
SMF does the same thing as AMF, but using a different algorithm.
Scripting and tray support
Available command line commands:
fast2.exe -tray [run + send to tray]
fast2.exe -silent: [run + memory cleanup + close]

You may allow Fast Defrag to run in the system tray, while
monitoring RAM usage and using less resources. You may change the tray icon
from the classical memory icon to digits or graphical display. Click on FAST
Option and then select the More Options Tab.
Skin Support: There are two different
ways to change FAST Defrag Pro skin: click on the ôFAST Defrag 2 Professionalö
Title that is near the AMS logo or click on Fast OptionsαMore OptionsαChoose Skin (from ôSkin
Optionsö category). Select the skin and restart the program.
Language Support: is available since
version 2.10.82. In the directory where you installed FAST Defrag there is
another directory called “Languages”. FAST Defrag will
automatically search for language initialization files (with INI extension).
You can name them as you wish, but it is recommended that the given name may be
accordingly to the language that you wish to translate. Double click on the INI
file and you can automatically edit it from notepad. Before proceeding please
read carefully the instruction from the beginning of the INI file. After
finishing the translation of the INI file or the documentation file, please
send us the modified files so we can publish them on our web site.
